40 year old man has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment with hard labor by Mzimba Second Grade Magistrate for defiling a 12 year old girl and infecting her with HIV.

According to the state prosecutor Yollam Kanyenda said the convict Eliya Tembo was caught by the friend’s victim who later reported the matter to the victim’s parents.

The victim was later taken to the hospital where medical reports showed that the girl was indeed raped and that she has been infected with HIV by Kanyenda who happens to be the victim’s uncle.

Giving punishment to the convict, Second Grade Resident Magistrate Alexander Gomba said Kanyenda deserved a stiffer punishment to serve as a warning to would offenders as such crimes are escalating.
