Magistrate court has yesterday released 7 polytechnic students on bail over Tuesday’s  protests staged by the student who were demonstrating against insecurity in their hostels over the recent weeks.

The students were arrested together with a cleaner for being suspected to be master-minders of the turned riots protests.

The protests resulted into commotion along Masauko Chipembere Highway.

Magistrate C.H Msokera released the students on bail after hearing the explanation by the prosecutors about the offence committed by the students.

However, Msokera said the students should re-appear before the court on 10th January 2020 after a thorough investigation by the Police.

Kunozga Mlowoka president of the Polytechnic Students union said they decided to push the matter for court hearing to seek justice for the students.

The students’ riot was based on the premise that they want management to change MM Security Company accusing the security officers of failing their duties amid increased cases of theft at the hostels.
