Tea is a popular beverage among many communities in the world. People drink tea any time of the day because it is always satisfying, energizing and soothing.

It has many health benefits like boosting your immunity, has antioxidants that prevent you from the effects of pollution, makes your smile vibrant and may also reduce your chances of getting a stroke or a heart attack.

However, tea has also its little known side effects. Some of the side effects are;

1. Poor sleep

Tea has caffeine which interferes with the production of melatonin in the brain which is a hormone that induces sleep.

This will make you have a night of poor sleep. Poor sleeping habit is associated with impaired memory, fatigue and high chances of becoming obese.

2. Constipation

Tea contains theophylline which is a chemical that dehydrates the body during the digestion process causing constipation.

4. Can cause oesophagal cancer.

A study that examined tea drinkers who took their tea when it was too hot (65°C-70°C) concluded that very hot tea exposes you to a higher risk of developing oesophagal cancer.

4. Can cause miscarriage

High caffeine present in tea disrupts the development of a foetus in the womb. This can lead to miscarriage.
