Patients diagnosed with Sexual Transmitted Infections (STIs) in Mwanza district are failing to get treatment following shortage of STI drugs in the district, MIJ Online can report.
According to an investigation by MIJ, the hospital has been running without the drugs for the past two months forcing patients to seek medication from other sources such as pharmacies and private hospitals.
Joseph Mkango one of the patients sent to buy the medication from private hospitals said he is still in pain since he cannot afford to buy the drugs.
Meanwhile, one of the hospital workers at Mwanza district hospital who opted for anonymity has told our reporter that the situation is worrying and feared this could breed resistance and cervical cancer to women who are affected.
The Ministry is yet to respond on the matter.
