SOUTH AFRICA – A female resident of Ramosadi village outside Mahikeng in South Africa has become another victim of a gender-based violence. The local community is gripped by fear as a 19-year-old attacker first stabbed 18-year-old Gomolemo Legae and then burned her alive.
The unsuspecting girl was heading home when she encountered the suspect, who apparently stopped her. Before succumbing to her injuries, Gomolemo managed to call for help and the neighbours came to her. Unfortunately, the girl could not be saved.
Subsequently, the witnesses of the massacre helped the police to trace the suspect. The alleged killer is expected to face a local court.
Remarkably, this incident was the second case of such a brutal murder during the government’s 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. Earlier, 21-year-old Limpopo student Precious Ramabulana had been raped and stabbed to death in her rented apartment.
