SOUTH AFRICA – On Thursday afternoon, a helicopter crashed in Eshowe, north of Durban, killing its pilot.

According to IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Paul Herbst, the incident occurred while the man was spraying pesticide over a local farm. The helicopter reportedly got into difficultly and allegedly struck the power lines.

The pilot was pulled out of the burning R44 helicopter by the eyewitnesses; however, it was too late.

“Unfortunately, the pilot of the light aircraft sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on arrival by IPSS paramedics,” Herbst confirmed.

The fire and rescue services have since extinguished the fire and cordoned off the area to investigate the scene. No possible cause of the crash has been mentioned yet.
