United Democratic Front (UDF) Member of Parliament for Ndirande Malabada Ismail Mkumba says he has started implementing some of the things that he promised to do in as far as development for the area is concerned.
He said the opening of a Hotel and Catering Academy at Malawi Institute of Tourism (MIT) is helping the youth to get skills in Hotel Management for free.
“Everyone is happy because the skills will help them to find employment and for those that are very poor they can walk on foot since it is not too far from the area. We have also opened a driving school for free and this is for those who cannot afford to go to the university,” he said.
Mkumba said this is helping the youth not to indulge themselves from the malpractices of drug and alcohol abuse just to mention a few.
The Ndirande Malabada UDF legislator said his aim is to make the area a rich constituency where its people will invest through cooperatives regardless of political affiliation.
“I want people of the constituency to invest in farming and do businesses that will make them to be independent financially,” he said.
Mkumba said that he wants people in the constituency to have good houses, roads, and clinic and eat healthy food to give a true reflection that it is in Blantyre City.
He also said that he has represented things they told him to say in parliament as their MP because he works with chiefs, political leaders, various organizations as well as the residents of the constituency.
