ZIMBABWE – A handcuffed suspected thief reportedly drowned in the sewage Pond near Bindura Central Police Station while he was attempting to escape from Police custody Newsday reports.
It is believed the deceased, Austine Tauro was arrested for stealing copper cables with his friends and was handcuffed, and taken to Bindura Central Police Station. At the police station, Tauro reportedly fled and jumped into the sewage pond where he drowned and his body later retrieved for and taken to the morgue for post mortem.
The Incident was confirmed by Mashonaland Central acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Fidelis Dhewu who said:
I can confirm a case of sudden death in Bindura where Austine Tauro of Gulliver Compound drowned in a sewage pond next to Bindura Central Police Station after trying to run away.
