A bride was left horrified when a woman burst into her reception shouting: “Stop the wedding, it should have been me.”

Stacey Owen feared the woman was a ‘crazy ex-girlfriend’ of her new husband Keri when she interrupted their big day wearing a wedding dress.

The couple were on the dance floor at the Ty Newydd Country Hotel in Aberdare, Wales, when the woman ran into room and began hitting Keri on the head with a bouquet.

But within seconds Stacey realized the whole thing was a prank, set up by her maid of honor, Jackie Lewis, reports Wales online.

The ‘crazy ex’ was actually comedian January Rees, from Glynneath, who Jackie had convinced to gatecrash the wedding.

“I managed to persuade Jan to take part, it could have gone drastically wrong. We were planning it for 4-5 months,” said Jackie.

“Stacey expected some sort of surprise and I just wanted to do something silly. I was searching for ideas online when I came across videos of drag queens going down the aisle which gave me this idea.”

Talking about the wedding on November 30, bride Stacey said everyone was terrified when the stunt first unfolded.

“I just thought what is going on as we had just done our first dance. At first the lights were dim and I couldn’t see her face so I just thought it was one of Keri’s nutty exes.

“But when the lights came up I could see Jan’s face and I knew who she was then. My partner was terrified at first.”

The 29-year-old said that performance would always be remembered by everyone who went to the wedding.

“We did see the funny side, the performance has had everyone talking.

“Everyone at the wedding was laughing and they were hiding when she was whacking people with the flowers.

“The whole day was brilliant, my partner was hiding behind me, he just said ‘I hope she doesn’t terrorize me’ as he’d seen her live before as a standup comedian.”

January admitted she was really nervous as it was the first time she had ever done anything like it.

“Jackie phoned me and said ‘Jan, only you can pull it off’, but it could have gone either way. I got my old wedding dress from the attic and got in the car and drove to the venue.

“You should have seen the neighbor’s face. Only the DJ and Jackie knew about it. At first the bride was shocked and she thought I was a crazy ex-girlfriend.

“The response has been amazing, everyone seemed to love it,” she said.
