Police in Chikwawa have arrested two men for allegedly attempting to steal money from a village bank treasurer.
January Gondwe and Chisomo Bila were netted Monday morning at Supuni village under Traditional Authority (T/A) Katunga in the district.
The two allegedly attempted to ‘rob’ Marriam Alumando, a treasurer for Chingalumba Village Savings and Loans.
One of the suspects, Bila, is a secretary to the group.
He is said to have connived with Gondwe and another suspect at large informing them that Alumando had money intended to be shared on Tuesday.
Gondwe and his accomplice smashed their way into Alumando’s house but were quickly detected.
Villagers apprehended Gondwe after his accomplice escaped.
They handed him over to the police before they later nabbed Bila.
Police charged the two with burglary and are expecting to drag them to court soon.
Gondwe, 20, is from Masamba village, T/A Ndakwera while 19-year-old Bila comes from Supuni village under T/A Katunga in Chikwawa.
