SOUTH AFRICA – In a very disturbing development, a South African based lecturer was shot in cold blood in front of his family and friends a few hours into the new year. He died on the spot.

The deceased who has been identified as Sam Mambande was shot once in the forehead by an as yet unidentified person.

Mambande was shot after he approached the shooter’s car to inquire why his vehicle was blocking the road, as it was parked in the middle of the road. According to eyewitnesses, the shooter just got out his car, shot Mambande and drove away, fleeing from the crime scene.

Witnesses say that Mambande was making his way home, after enjoying himself at a popular drinking spot in Chipinge’s Gaza high-density suburb where he had been merrymaking with friends and family.

A witness who spoke to state-owned broadcaster ZBC News said,

“We were coming out of this bar when we saw a car parked in the middle of the road. He (Mambande) then hooted and went to ask why the driver was blocking the road thus when he was shot and they fled. We only managed to take the number plates of the vehicle”

The police have said that they are still conducting investigations into the matter. The shooter is yet to be apprehended.
