Students from Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi (UNIMA) can now breathe a sigh of relief following a decision by management to re-open the school after a fierce inferno.
Management closed the college months ago after Nyika hostel was gutted down by fire which was suspected to have emanated from a teargas canister fired by police.
In a statement released on December 31, 2019, management has informed the students that the college will re-open on January 20, 2020.
The college has since advised students who used to occupy Nyika Hostel to seek accommodation elsewhere.
“The opening of the college is as a result of the quick response from Malawi government through the department of Disaster Management Affairs. The government has provided funds that will assist in alleviating accommodation issues,” reads part of the statement.
Meanwhile management has asked well-wishers to assist some students affected by inferno.
