Malawi’s renowned Poet Sylvester Kalizang’oma has said 2019 was a tough year for poetry and Drama industry because of political tension and also heavy rains.
Speaking in an interview, Kalizang’oma said people were busy with court cases which made them not to patronize shows which they were performing.
“We Poets and dramatists were much affected by political situation. Most people were concentrating much on demos and court cases. As you know demonstration pulled a lot of fans,” he said.
But Kalizang’oma hopes that this year (2020) things will be much better and will launch his album and hold Warm Heart poetry festival between March and April as a way of entertaining his fans.
“We will be organizing a lot of shows this year like Warm Heart Festival, Launching my album and an album of upcoming poet (Miriam Kuboma) as one way of promoting her work plus holding different shows to entertain Malawians,” said Kalizang’oma who is known with “Unkalindanji Moyo” album and “Nayi Nkhata ya Maluwa”.
Kalizang’oma started writing and reciting poems 25 years ago. He comes from Salima in Village Headman Nthiwatiwa in Traditional Authority Ndindi.
