The US has confirmed that three Americans were killed on Sunday in Kenya following a terror attack carried out by Al-Shabab militia at a military camp in Manda Bay, Lamu County.
The slain officers are a US service member, and two civilian contractors that were working with the Defence Department, CNN reports.
“The wounded Americans are currently in stable condition and being evacuated,” US Africa Command said as quoted by the New York Times.
Reportedly, US Special Operations force has been using the attacked airfield base for various military missions.
The Camp Simba military base has under 100 US personnel, according to Pentagon. US forces at the Manda Bay airfield train and give counter-terror support to East African partners.
“Our efforts directly contribute to counterterrorism, maritime surveillance, and intelligence sharing missions with our Kenyan partners. This activity enables enhanced security and stability in the region and for America,” US Army General Stephen Townsend stated.
The Lamu military base attack came a few days after a truck bomb claimed over 70 lives in Mogadishu which Al-Shabaab took claim of.
