Experts have revealed that drinking too much water while exercising or running can put you at a greater risk. It is one of the dangerous vices people have never imagined.
“Aggressive drinking to prevent dehydration is unnecessary and carries with it greater risk,” reads Clinical Journals of Sport Medicine
Even though it is a way of staying hydrated and prevent thirst throughout the exercise, it is claimed that it is could cause coma, nausea and lightheadedness. It can also make the brain to swell due to excess water.
Usually, the kidney becomes overloaded due to the excess build-up of fluids in the body. This makes it hard for the kidney to excrete the water load which may in turn cause coma and eventually death due to the swelling in the body.
“Fluid intake recommendations suggesting that athletes begin to drink fluids before the onset of the sensation of thirst were targeting those exercising in situations where high sweat rates were present and dehydration could evolve rapidly with known medical and performance outcomes,” notes a group of experts.
“Unfortunately, this advice fostered the misconception that thirst is a poor guide to fluid replacement in lower sweat rate situations. We believe that this has facilitated individuals choosing to inadvertently adopt overdrinking.”
When doing workouts, steer clear of drinking excess water as this may cause more harm than good.
