Malawians have taken to the street in the capital Lilongwe to protest against failure by the Malawi Police Service (MPS) to arrest fellow officers who allegedly raped women at Msundwe, M’bwatalika and Mpingu in October last year.

Before starting the protest, Human Right Defenders Coaltion (HRDC) Vice Chairperson Gift Trapence addressed protesters at Lilongwe Community Ground.

In his speech, Trapence said the grouping is demonstrating to demand accountability on the Msundwe saga.

HRDC chairperson Timothy Mtambo gave police up to yesterday to arrest culprits, but nobody was arrested hence the demos today.

Protesters are expected to present the petition to the Acting Inspector General of Police Duncan Mwapasa.
