The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has closed its northern region offices in Mzuzu as business operators are expected to stage protests at the premises today.

The business operators are demanding MRA to remove what they are describing unfair taxes which are negatively affecting the business community.

The tensions have also forced business operators in city to close their shops as security remains watertight by joint forces of Malawi Defence Force (MDF) and Malawi Police Services.

Meanwhile in Chitipa tension is high as people are demanding closure or MRA offices at Mbirima.

The people accuse the MRA of failing to ensure that there is a better road network covering Chitipa yet the body collects a lot of revenue from the post.

Initially, Head of corporate affairs at MRA Steven Kapoloma said the border post will remain intact and revenue will continue to be collected.
