The Muslim Supreme Council of Malawi has given government a two week ultimatum to arrest people responsible for the death of a police officer Usumani Imedi at Msundwe in Lilongwe.

This has been said by Chairperson of the council Sheik Yasin Katungwe when he presented the petition to Machinga District commissioner Rosemary Nawasha.

When receiving the petition Nawasha promised to deliver the concerns to relevant authorities.

In the morning hours of today Muslims in Liwonde were demonstrating advocating for peaceful protest without infringing other people’s rights.

Last year in October Imedi met his fate when he was stoned to death by angry mob in Msundwe who were against President Peter Mutharika’s plans to hold a rally in the area.

Imedi was one of the police officers who were sent to maintain peace and order in the area.
