As Malawians are eagerly waiting for the ruling on the May 21 Presidential polls, Mbakuwaku Movement for Development-MMD President, Peter Kuwani has asked to be declared winner of the controversial polls.

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) declared President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika winner of the May 21 polls forcing the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and United Transformation Movement (UTM) to seek nullification of the polls.

The two parties argued that MEC led by its Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah failed to manage the polls.

In a letter dated January 19, 2020, Kuwani has asked for the disqualification of the four Parties battling in court, saying said parties have violated the peace agreement signed during prayer breakfact organized by Public Affairs Committee (PAC).

While admitting that the May 21 polls were marred by serious irregularities, Kuwani has accused the four parties of having a hand.

Kuwani has cited the move not to allow minor political parties to take part in Presidential debates organized by Media Institute of Southern Africa(MISA-Malawi) Chapter as one of the clear sign of not adhering to the call values of free and fair election.
