Primary school leaners in Dedza are marching to the District Education Office to demand salaries for their teachers who have started a national wide sit-in today.

Last week Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) issued a statement informing all its members that from January 20, 2020, teachers and Lecturers will embark on sit-in to force the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) led government to pay them their December salaries.

According to TUM statement, government deliberately removed some teachers and Lecturers on payroll for failing to submit National Identification Card.

Meanwhile the strike has started in most of the Schools in the country and one of the teachers at Chambu Primary School in Lilongwe who opted for anonymity confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
