Information reaching Faceofmalawi indicates that workers from Lilongwe City Council have down tools to force the council to hike their salaries.

According to information at hand, the workers were promised to start receiving new salaries this month, but they are surprised that there is no formal communication yet.

Some of the workers have brought in a Gulewamkulu dancer to entertain them outside council offices.

The strike come at a time teachers national wide are also staging a sit-in to force the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) led government to pay them their Deceember salaries.

The strike has also seen primary school learners marching in the street in solidarity with their teachers.

In Mzuzu, police have fired teargas at the harmless learners.
