ZIMBABWE – In a rather embarrassing development, two soldiers were arrested after they stole and slaughtered a cow.

The two soldiers who are reported to be army sergeants stationed at Imbizo Barracks ( formerly known as Llewellyn Barracks) in Bulawayo allegedly stole the beast from the Sigola Area. Unfortunately, for the thieving soldiers, members of the community came together and apprehended them before handing them over to the police.

The allegations come at a time when there have been numerous reports that members of the armed forces are facing tough times due to inadequate resources and low remuneration. Last year, there were reports that soldiers were disgruntled that they were suffering just like everyone else yet they had been instrumental in removing former president Robert Mugabe in the November 2017 Military Coup.

If the two soldiers are found guilty of the alleged crime, they face a minimum of nine years in prison each.
