The electoral body, Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has promised to provide tight security ahead of the by-elections in Lilongwe South Constituency.
The parliamentary by-election will finally be held next week Thursday, three months after its postponement.
Chairperson for the electoral body Jane Ansah confirmed this during a media briefing she held ahead of the activity.
According to Ansah, traditional leaders in the area have also assured the body of creating peaceful by-elections.
MEC chairperson Jane Ansah confirmed this at a media briefing yesterday saying the decision follows an assurance for peace by traditional leaders in the area.
A volatile campaign environment that included the stoning of a commissioner for the MEC forced the electoral body to cancel the poll last October.
Ansah is facing resignation calls by stakeholders including Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) for allegedly mismanaging May 21, 2019 tripartite elections.
