Police in Zomba are keeping in custody a 34 year old Secondary School Teacher for allegedly having sex with a learner.
According to Zomba Police Station, Deputy Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Patrick Maseko, Blessings Tanganyika, a teacher at St Bridget Community Day Secondary School secretly fell in love with a 19 year old form 4 learner at the same school between the month of April and May, 2019,
He said that the two had been having sexual intercourse until the victim got pregnant and the issue came to light after the girl had miscarried.
“The victim revealed to her parents that her teacher, Tanganyika was responsible for the pregnancy and the matter was reported to Zomba Police Station.
“A follow up was made by Police and the suspect was arrested last week Thursday and has since been charged with the offence of having sex with a minor which is contrary to section 159 A sub section B of the penal code,” Maseko explained.
He said the suspect would soon appear before the court to answer the charge leveled against him.
Councillor for Ntungulutsi Ward, Gift Chilipa said this is the eighth case where a student has been impregnated by a teacher at this school.
Tanganyika hails from Chisa Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Mlumbe in Zomba District.
