Teachers in the country can now breathe a sigh of relief as some of them have now started receiving their December salaries.
Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) Secretary General Charles Kumchenga has confirmed the development.
Kumchenga has since advised all teachers not to go to District Council (DC) offices but rather to converge in their respective schools.
Teachers have been holding sit-in aimed at forcing government to receive their delayed December salaries.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lilongwe Accountant General Sungani Mandala said all 7167 affected teachers are now receiving their salaries
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary for ministry of Education Justin Saidi has assured the teachers that the delay will not happen again in January payments.
