Thom Mpinganjira was released from Blantyre Police at around midnight after a magistrate in Zomba issued an order cancelling a warrant of arrest earlier obtained by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday.

The Order by a magistrate at Zomba Magistrate’s Court bears no name of a magistrate but it is signed and was obtained by lawyers from Ritz Law Firm.

The order by Zomba Magistrate’s Court also directs that “any further prosecutorial steps of the applicant by the Anti-Corruption Bureau be and shall be taken by way of Summons under Section 84 of the Criminal Procedures and Evidence Code”.

Mpinganjira is accused of attempting to bribe Judges handling the Presidential polls case where Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and United Transformation Movement (UTM) are seeking nullification of the May 21 polls.
