As debate continues on the midnight bail of business tycoon Thomson Mpinganjira with many Malawians demanding an investigation on the matter, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has shunned the matter his address.
Mpinganjira was arrested on Wednesday by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on allegations that he attempted to bribe Judges handling the Presidential polls case and was expected to appear in court on Thursday morning.
But at midnight Mpinganjira was granted bail by the Zomba Magistrate Court at midnight. The court also quashed the summon by ACB attracting mixed reactions among Malawians.
Addressing the press this morning, Chakwera praised judges of the Constitutional Court, ACB director, the military, the leaders of civil society, civil servants and many Malawians for upholding rule of law.
Chakwera also called upon all Malawians to welcome the eminent decision of the Constitutional Court in peace.
“Let us resolve to welcome the ruling with open arms as a foundation on which we can begin the work of rebuilding our nation and reconciling with each other. After all, we have no other nation to call our home than Malawi and no other people to call our own than each other. And I, for one, would never trade it for any other on earth,” said Chakwera.
Chakwera also condemned raping of women at Msundwe by the law enforcers.
