United Transformation Movement (UTM) President Dr. Saulos Chilima has called on President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to display qualities of a statesman as the constitutional court is about to deliver the ruling on Presidential polls case on Monday.
Chilima said this during a media briefing currently underway in the capital Lilongwe.
In his speech Chilima said Mutharika should emulate the leadership skills of former Presidents such as Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda who accepted the wish of Malawians by leaving office peacefully in critical moments.
“We are appealing to President Peter Mutharika to save his face and leave a good legacy during this period,” said Chilima.
Chilima also urged the police to conduct themselves in a professional manner.
“We are asking the police to step up and provide security to the citizens during this period. Furthermore, people need to maintain law and order. Malawi will always be our home,” added Chilima.
He said Malawi is known for being a peaceful nation, a legacy that needs to be maintained.
