A 41-year-old man was on Wednesday found dead after drowning in Lilongwe River.

Deputy Publicist for Lilongwe Police, Foster Benjamin said that the man, David Raphael, was found floating in the river at about 12:30 p.m. behind Central Medical Stores.

According to the deceased’s brother, Chiyembekezo Raphael, David, who was a well-known piece-worker at Lizulu Flea Market, went missing on 26 January.

Relatives had since then been searching for him until Wednesday when they located him floating in the river.

They immediately reported to the police.

Detectives pulled the body ashore before Kamuzu Central Hospital medics who confirmed death as a result of suffocation and no foul play is not suspected according to Benjamin.

Raphael came from Maonde village under Traditional Authority Kachere in Dedza district.
