A newly formed grouping that is advocating for women rights has announced of fresh demonstrations against the recent abuse of women in the country.

The grouping, Young Feminists Network (YFN) will hold the protests on Saturday in Blantyre and Lilongwe.

The YFN says it intends to utilize the demonstrations to urge government to take action on people abusing women in the country.

The grouping’s General Secretary Zaithwa Milanzi said that at the moment, they are waiting for respective city councils to finalize the paperwork for them to hold the demonstrations.

“We also have set aside tight security, first aid personnel and have finished mobilizing participants to take part in the demonstartions,’’ she said.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Defenders Coalitions (HRDC), Women Lawyers Association, Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) and NGO Gender Coordination Network have shown interest to take part in the protests.

Over the last few months, police in Nsundwe township in Lilongwe faced allegations of raping and assaulting women before a recent incident in Blantyre in which men undressed a woman whom they accused of wearing a mini skirt.
