In an effort to crack down on dangerous drug use and abuse, police in Lilongwe have arrested 4 Nigerians and 3 Malawians for being found in possession of dangerous drugs suspected to be cocaine.
This happened on the night between 31st January to 1st February, 2020 in Area 47 and Chilinde (New lines).
The Criminal Investigation Department at Central Region Headquarters was on a special operation aiming at curbing drug business in Lilongwe. Through intelligence collection, the team managed to arrest 7 suspects who were found with sachets of substance suspected to be cocaine.
The Nigerians include Okafor Agbai (30), Saint Ume (26), Zoma Ukechuku (26), and Uchenna Okafor (33). The Malawians including Alick Saidi (37) Nkuchira village T/A Mponda Mangochi; Waliko Theu (42) Ndili village T/A Mzukuzuku Mzimba, and Alex Mawaya (38) Shuga village T/A Chikumbu, Mulanje.
In the same operation, the law enforcers also arrested 7 people for staying in the country without proper documents. The arrested suspects include 4 Nigerians who are Uche Kale (34), Mark Dike (43), Chima Uche (28), and Amalache Hijiri (29). There were also 2 Congolese who are Gilbert Omali (17), and Omari August (24). One Tanzanian named Nyamizi Andrew completes the list.
Those arrested on drug related case will answer a charge of found in possession of dangerous drugs in line with section 4 of Dangerous Drug Act.
Similarly, those arrested for been found staying illegally will answer a charge of illegal stay contrary to section 21 of the Immigration Act.
All suspects will appear before court once preparations are completed.
