On early Saturday morning a Chicago man was found thrashed in the prison and was later declared dead at a Cook County prison.

According to the reports, Pedro Ruiz, 19, was physically attacked overnight and the officials discovered him unresponsive at 1:53 am inside the prison.

The officers of the prison immediately undertook lifesaving measures for Ruiz and secured his cellmate in handcuffs. Reportedly, Ruiz was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital with the help of paramedics of the fire department, but ultimately, he was declared dead.

The Fox news reported that, according to Cook County sheriff’s spokesman Joe Ryan, Ruiz received severe head trauma and the Division 9 correctional officers shifted his cellmate to another cell.
