Five people are under police custody in chitipa for allegedly damaging and stealing properties worth millions of kwachas.
The five suspects and others at large on 3rd January 2020 at around 1900hrs organized themselves and attacked Queen Kanyika chizimu aged 28 on allegations that she was practicing witchcraft at Mthandizi village in the area of traditional Authority Mwaulambia in the district, according to the district’s police public relations officer, Gladwell Simwaka.
Simwaka said the victim and her husband dwells in Mthandizi village and these five people and others at large suspected that the family of Queen practice witchcraft.
“They went on calling up a meeting where they discussed and agreed to deal with the family. The family was called and the husband of this family went out for an errand, Queen refused to be at the meeting in the absence of her husband, this did not went well with the holigans and went on demolishing houses and stole various house hold items in the process, “Simwaka said.
Two houses were completely demolished and kitchen utensils were stolen, six bags of fertilizers, twenty five tins of beans, matress and a bed, all valued at K 1, 174,000.00
The five are Samuel Simfukwe aged 20, Isaiah Simfukwe aged 22, Kondwani Simpokolwe aged 29, Chancy Simpokolwe aged 26 and Winford Simpokolwe aged 28, all hailing from Mthandizi village in the area of traditional Authority Mwaulambia in Chitipa district.
They will appear in court soon to answer charges of Malicious damage and theft.
