Police in Chiradzulu are following leads to apprehend a woman who is suspected of stealing a two week old baby in Mitawa village in the area of Traditional Authority Mpama in the district.
According to Chiradzulu Police Station Public Relations Officer, Yohane Tasowana, the baby was stolen on February 9, 2020 at the house of Melia Bonzo in the village.
“According to the mother of the child, Melia Bonzo ,19, in the afternoon of February 8, 2020 she received an unknown visitor who brought with her some baby clothes and other items as a gift to the newly born.
“The unknown person told the mother that she was sent by her in-law, Dalitso Clement, who stays at Makhetha in Blantyre district, “said the PRO.
The suspect further told the mother of the baby that she was sent by the in-law to pick them to Makhetha.
In the morning of February 9, 2020, Bonzo left the baby in the hands of the unknown visitor as she prepared for the journey.
However, the suspect disappeared with the baby.
The mother and members of the village, searched for the suspect but to no avail.
It is alleged that the suspect was seen boarding a minibus heading Limbe.
The suspect is tall, thin, black in complexion, and has a cataract (Ng’ala) on her left eye.
Police are appealing to anyone to feed them with information that can lead to the arrest of the culprit.
