The body of a 34 year old man, Amon Jere who drowned in a river after being swept by flooding water in Mzimba, was found in a decomposed state.
Mzimba Police Station Public Relations Officer (PRO), Peter Botha said Jere drowned on January 13, 2019 and was found Saturday in a decomposed state along the banks of Khanga River in the district.
“According to the wife of the deceased, Emily Tembo, on January 13, her husband went to Lupachi Trading Centre to drink beer since it was a market day.
“While there, it started raining and Jere opted to start off at 19:00 hours but was swept by the flooding waters as he attempted to cross the river,” said Botha.
Botha said efforts to search for the deceased proved futile due to continuous heavy rains in the area.
Jere hailed from Gideon Village in Traditional Authority Khosolo in Mzimba. Meanwhile Police are advising people to refrain from crossing flooded rivers.
