Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) Church Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has said he will start selling maize in Malawi at a reduced price of K5,000 per 50 kilogram bag.

Bushiri said this during the launch of cheap maize project which will benefit people in district affected by hunger and floods in Malawi.

Speaking live from his base in Sandton, South Africa on Tuesday, Prophet Bushiri said he has in stock 18,000 metric tones of maize which will be sold in Malawi starting from Wednesday.

He said the first markets will be in Ntcheu, and then Salima, Chikwawa, Karonga, Chitipa and Phalombe.

In the past Bushiri has been assisting Malawians affected by hunger by distributing free maize across the country.

The move faced a lot of resistance from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) led government with many cadets accusing him of politicizing the exercise.

But Bushiri trashed this on several occasions, saying he has no intention to contest for Presidency post in the country.
