In Kenya, a man has been arrested after he married a 17-year-old girl he met at a night club.

According to NairobiNews, the suspect has since been charged with defilement and is on remand until the local Makadara court sets bail and bonds for him.

The man is charged with defiling the “victim” on diverse dates between December 25 last year and January 22 this year.

The suspect is facing an alternative charge of indecent act with the school girl during the same period, in contravention of the Sexual Offences Act of 2006.

He has however denied the charges before chief magistrate Heston Nyaga when he was arraigned on February 5.

He reportedly met the “victim” during an all-night reggae extravaganza at a club christened Platinum and took her to his home as his wife, reportedly unaware she was underage and a school girl.

The chief magistrate sought to know circumstances under which the girl was defiled before setting the bond terms.

The girl’s father told the court that he returned home shortly after 10pm on December 24, 2019 and was told not to lock the gate because she had not returned and never returned that night.

The father said his daughter is in form four but has not registered for KCSE and said he is not aware whether or not that night was the first time his daughter spent night in a club.

The suspect had already introduced the minor as his wife to his parents and plans were underway to initiate the customary process for the marital union when Amalemba was arrested.

Nyaga expressed surprise that a school girl was dancing the night away in a night club and sought to hear her version of events before setting the bail terms for her “tormentor.”

The school girl appeared in court on Wednesday but the magistrate postponed the matter to be heard before him on April 9.

The suspect will remain in remand until then.
