Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has finally shutdown Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) offices in Blantyre.

As promised earlier, HRDC vowed to push every MEC official out and seal the offices to force MEC chairperson justice Jane Ansah to resign.

Nine months have gone since the human rights body has been calling for Ansah’s resignation for failing to manage the May 21, 2019 elections of which the presidential elections have been nullified by the Constitutional Court.

However Ansah has yesterday told the Parliament Appointments Committee that she would resign if the Supreme Court of Appeal finds her and the entire MEC commissioners wrong.

Anti-Ansah demonstrations are currently underway in most parts of the country.
