The leadership of United Demmocratic Front (UDF) has agreed to work with the ruling Democratic progressive Party (DPP) ahead of the fresh presidential elections to be conducted in less than 150 days as ordered by the Constitutional Court.
Spokesperson for the party Ken Ndanga confirmed in an interview that the meeting was held on Sunday at former president Bakili Muluzi’s BCA residence in Blantyre.
Delegates at the UDF National Executive Committee meeting agreed this in Blantyre.
But the party’s Secretary General Kandi Padambo insists the party has not chosen a partner yet.
The leadership of the United Democratic Front UDF has resolved that the party should go into an electoral alliance ahead of the presidential elections in less than 150 days as ordered by the constitutional court.
Sources within the UDF NEC have said that the UDF will merge forces with the DPP, but Ndanga refused to be drawn to confirm the development.
The UDF NEC resolution comes just days after the party’s leader Atupele Muluzi confirmed meeting Malawi Congress Party President Lazarus Chakwera, UTM’s Saulos Chilima and DPP president Peter Mutharika.
