Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara has suspended proceedings prematurely following disagreement over the presence of Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Chairperson Timothy Mtambo and vice chairperson Gift Trapence in Parliament’s visitors gallery.
Deputy leader of the house, Martha Chanjo Mhone moved a motion that deliberations be suspended for the business commitee to meet and discuss security issues of the house.
Mtambo and Trapence stormed the house to follow proceedings as the lawmakers are expected to start debating on the electoral reform bills as ordered by the Constitutional Court on February 3, 2020.
