Information reaching Faceofmalawi indicates that the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and the United Transformation Movement (UTM) have formed an alliance ahead of the fresh Presidential polls.
According to information at hand, MCP President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera will be the torchbearer and Dr. Saulos Chilima will be the Vice replacing Muhammad Sidik Mia.
It is also said that Mia will be the second Vice President in the fresh polls.
Speaking in an interview with the press after appearing in Parliament for the first time on Monday afternoon since the country held the disputed May 21, 2019 polls, Chakwera could neither deny nor agree on the speculations.
“Is anything wrong with MCP forming an Alliance with UTM?” said Chakwera when asked on the matter.
Some top officials in MCP led by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Madalitso Kazombo are also pushing for Saulos Chilima to be Chakwera’s vice in fresh polls.
According to Kazombo, MCP, UTM alliance is the only way of removing the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) from power.
Meanwhile Chilima is yet to comment on the matter.
