The Human Rights Defenders Coalition has announced the change of date for the planned vigils slated to be held at Parliament Building in Lilongwe.

HRDC had initially arranged to hold the vigils today Wednesday but the organization says it will hold the vigils on Friday following an initial communication from the Lilongwe City Council to withhold their planned vigils.

The Council indicated that the HRDC delayed to notify them on the vigils and that the Speaker of Parliament had not yet authorized the vigil.

In an interview, HRDC chairperson, Timothy Mtambo said they have decided to shift the vigil to Friday because the coalition would like to monitor how the members of parliament will table the 50 + 1 bill on Thursday.

Mtambo has since threatened that if parliament will not pass the bill on Thursday , the grouping will bring two million demonstrators to hold a vigil at Parliament on Friday.
