Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Madalitso Kazombo has distanced himself from rumours hovering on the social media that he approached State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima asking him to represent the grand coalition in the fresh polls as ordered by the Constitutional Court on February 3, 2020.

On Wednesday on the online publications carried a story indicating that Kazombo and former Minister Finance Ken Kandodo led a delegation of 32 Malawi Congress Party (MCP) who met Chilima asking him to represent MCP, UTM alliance.

According to the publication, the MPs have lost trust in MCP President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera hence opting for Chilima.

But Kazombo quashed the claims, describing the rumours as cheap propaganda.

“Cheap propaganda won’t help you. Kamatcheni is unmoved, we respect and follow the four cornerstones of MCP,” wrote Kazombo.

Rumours reaching this publication indicate that UTM and MCP have formed an Alliance and Chakwera will be the torchbearer while Chilima will be the Vice.

Meanwhile Chilima is yet to comment on the rumours.
