A 32-year-old man in Machinga is expected to answer murder charges for allegedly killing his friend in a fight over K150.
Machinga police public relations officer, Dave Sulumba has identified the suspect as Fredson Nazombe and the victim as 42-year-old Bolman Katawa.
According to the PRO, on February 23 the duo went together to drink locally brewed beer of Kachaso. While there, the victim told Nazombe to contribute K150 to add another bottle of Kachaso but Nazombwe said he had no money and asked the victim to use his money on agreement that he would refund when they get home.
“After drinking the beer, the two left for their respective homes but on their way Katawa (victim) started demanding his money which resulted into a fight. Katawa sustained multiple wounds and head injuries,” said the PRO.
After some people managed to end the fight, Katawa was taken to Machinga District Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and died.
Meanwhile, Nazombe is currently in police custody and he will soon appear before court.
Nazombe comes from Sogoja village, Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre while Katawa hailed from Pongolani village, Traditional Authority Nsanama in Machinga District.
