There have been many laws in the statute books to protect women from crimes. But they all seem to have no deterring effect.
In a fresh case, an auto driver in Mumbai, Maharashtra, allegedly molested a girl passenger commuting in his autorickshaw.
The 49-year-old masturbated in front of the girl while he was ferrying her to the college in Malad.
According to a report in news agency ANI, the incident took place on February 20 in Goregaon in Mumbai.
The teenage girl has also recorded the auto driver’s criminal act on her mobile phone. Later, the girl alerted the city police through social media after which a complaint was registered against the auto driver.
Police say they have now arrested the accused from Goregaon. He has been booked under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police said the victim had hired the autorickshaw to reach her college on the morning of February 29.
The accused indulged in the criminal act when he reached a secluded spot and started masturbating while looking at the girl through the rear-view mirror. The accused has been sent to police custody.
The girl also reportedly shared the incident which went viral on social media. It isn’t the first incident and perhaps won’t be the last.
