Admarc has disclosed plans to purchase maize from farmers immediately the farmers start harvesting in a drive to stock the maize silos.

This comes after parliament opted to allocate K 9 billion for the purchase of maize in the country.

There is however a sustained food crisis in most parts of the country due to the shortage of grains on the market.

According to Executive Director Pf Admarc Felix Jumbe, they have reacted to the situation by starting to purchase maize from April .This is unlike the last growing season when this was done by November.

Jumbe has since slammed politicians who he say are politicizing the of maize and the current situation.

“The major problem that we are facing is that in Central regionthe communities are refusing Admarc to sell maize in other areas of deficit due to political differences. This purely uncalled for, Said Jumbe”

Meanwhile, Admarc says it will embark on sensitization campaigns so that farmers sell their crops to Admarc other than the vendors whom the agricultural traders feel have been fuelling the situation for not controlling prices.
