In a bid to equip students with vocational and entrepreneurship skills for socio-economic growth, government through the ministry of Education Science and Technology has re-introduced technical subjects in Secondary schools.

Director of Administration at ministry of education Hillary Namainja said the initiative is aimed at preparing secondary school students to be independent after school.

Namainja added that as the country is moving students should not be given the mentality of getting white collar jobs alone citing there is a need to impart the entrepreneurship spirit in them.

According to Namainja, at least 12 schools are yet to benefit from the initiative.

“We have about 12 secondary schools in the country, that provide technical subjects, in the past we used to have such subjects but because of passage of time most of the equipment deteriorated,” said Namainja.

In his remarks, head teacher for Mzuzu Government Secondary School, Vincent Mudolo said they are steady and ready to start teaching the subjects since the school has qualified teachers to teach such subjects.
