Government has released some 62 non -established ICT officers at the Department of Road Traffic and Safety Services.
Some of the victims said they were ordered to leave offices and return uniform and office gadgets to the department because “government has decided not to renew their contracts”.
Director in the Department of Road Traffic and Safety Services, Fergus Gondwe confirmed releasing the officers.
“The only reason we have terminated their contracts is that the agreed contract period with the ICT officers has come to an end” Gondwe said.
Some of the fired ICT officers have said that they never signed contracts when they were recruited back in October 2015.
Their contracts were then verbally extended two years later. They were on government payroll and were being deducted pension contributions.
The officers are also claiming unpaid salary arrears for the first three months of recruitment.
