Swedish-born actor Max Von Sydow who appeared in films and TV series including Star Wars and Game of Thrones has died at the age of 90.
Von Sydow who played chess with Death as Knight Antonius Block in Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal (1957), died at his home in France on Sunday.

The news of his death was broken on Monday by his wife, the producer Catherine Brelet, who told Paris Match:
“It is with a broken heart and with infinite sadness that we have the extreme pain of announcing the departure of Max Von Sydow on 8 March 2020.”
Born in Sweden in Sweden in 1929, Max Von Sydow studied at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm. He has featured in more than 100 films and TV series.
He was nominated for two Oscars during his career – including best actor in 1998 for Pelle the Conqueror. His other Academy nomination was as best supporting actor for his role in 2011’s Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
Von Sydow’s other film credits included, The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965), and The Exorcist, Dune (1984), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), Awakenings (1990), Minority Report (2002), The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007), and Shutter Island (2009). He later appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and in HBO’s Game of Thrones as Three-eyed Raven.
His final film role was as a stern Russian admiral in Thomas Vinterberg’s 2018 English-language film about the 2000 Kursk Russian submarine disaster.
The actor has two sons with his first wife Christina Inga Britta Olin. In 1997, he married Catherine Brelet in Provence and became a citizen of France five years later.
