Chairperson for Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Timothy Mtambo has warned the Malawi Police of intimidating people who try to exercise their rights through demonstrations.
Mtambo said the remarks when he handed himself over to area 3 police in the capital Lilongwe two days after his colleagues were taken into custody.
In the presence of hundreds of sympathizers, Mtambo issued spit fire at the police who have accepted to be used as political tools of intimidating people opposing the government.
He continued by assuring people that the planned demonstrations on March 25 dubbed ‘State House shutdown’ will commerce as planned and no one will stop them.
On March 8 HRDC’s Gift Trapence and Mac Donald Sembereka were arrested barely few hours after president Peter Mutharika promised to deal with the members of the coalition with ‘all necessary forces’
HRDC lawyer Khwima Mchizi says all the processes are in order for the bail application of Timothy Mtambo to commence.
